from Anna Mai

Growing up in a low-income family led me to realize at a young age how environment has the power to change a person’s life forever. I did not go to the best public schools growing up and I saw my friends drop out of school one by one because of social and economic factors that affected their lives deeply. When I graduated from college, I went to Mexico on a mission trip and got the opportunity to visit an orphanage. This opened my eyes to inequalities on a global scale because I met many children who live in poverty and lacked the resources to better their lives.

My experiences ignited me to come together with a couple of friends to start Books for Prosperity in order to help empower underserved people that are disadvantaged from the start.

There are over 400,000 orphans in Mexico, many of whom suffer from mental health issues, lack access to medical and dental care, and don’t have the resources to advance themselves in life. When many of the children turn 18, they need to leave the orphanages and start a life on their own. If the children had access to education and knew English, they would be able to find better jobs when they enter the workforce and advance themselves in life. The group of people behind Books for Prosperity recognized the need of these children and decided to focus our efforts on helping these children achieve their full potential.

If you care about this cause as well, I would love to hear from you! Feel free to reach out with any questions, comments, or concerns.

Genuinely,

Anna Mai
