Developing the Curriculum

Updated: Dec 9, 2019

Currently we are partnered with Mission Acts Ministries, a nonprofit that works with 50 groups of children in Mexico. We are on a mission to develop a curriculum that will benefit the children. In order to develop an impactful curriculum, we developed partnerships with various groups, who provided us with knowledge, insights, and resources.

Nino's De Fe Children's Home in Tijuana

*This children’s home had an English program that lasted for 6 months. During this 6-month

period, English teachers came every week to teach the children English. The leader at the

children’s home provided us with insights on why the program did not achieve their desired

results and how we could avoid running into the same problems.

Encinitas Union School District

*Met with the Director of Curriculum, who provided us with a framework on how to develop a

curriculum and insights/advice on how to teach ESL students. One piece of advice she gave us was to teach the children new words before teaching them grammar because the grammar will make more sense to the kids if they have basic knowledge of some words.

Ocean Knoll Elementary School

*Met with an ESL teacher, who has extensive experience teaching ESL students because many of her kids immigrated from other countries and are learning English for the first time. She provided us with 2 ESL curriculums, tips on how to teach ESL students, worksheets that she uses in class, and activities she does with her students. One of the tips she gave us is to break up each lesson with various activities because children will get restless if they need to sit through one long lesson.

Deer Canyon Elementary School

*Met with the librarian, who provided us with books and other learning materials we will use

for our curriculum. She also connected us with another elementary school that has materials

they could donate to us.

Thank you to all our partners! We would not be here without your support.
